SELF PORTRAIT NUMBER 1

 40cm x 30cm acrylic on canvas
This was the first self portrait I painted of myself. I was moving my head very quickly toward the sky hense giving my face a very unnatural elongated look.

Sarah grange was born in Dublin, Ireland. She has lived in numerous countries which reflect the variety of styles presented in her works.
She is currently living in Hong Kong.
She has travelled all over the world in search of inspiration for her paintings; she has lived in Spain and Australia for months at a time studying local artists. She is in Hong Kong studying Asian art at present.
Sarah has studied Visual Communications at the Dun Laoighre school of Art and Design (IADT). She also studied Fine art at Galway & Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT).
Sarah’s paintings are primarily portraits as she is very interested in the human form. She tries to portray pure human emotion through her style and medium of painting. Large brush strokes of acrylic paint of surreal colours on a colour blasted canvas are a common method she uses.  Her portraits are big and bold and are usually more than 40”s squared.
Her portraits are mostly of musicians as music and these artists influence her greatly. Bands like Radiohead are constantly playing in her studio and the emotion portrayed in their songs helps her portray emotion in her paintings. Photos of artists on stage pouring their hearts out can make for a great painting in her eyes.
